The Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon

One of Iceland's main highlights is The Blue Lagoon. Really no trip to Iceland is complete without a stop at this place. This was on our itinerary as soon as we decided on Iceland and I'm so happy to have had the chance to go.

Here's what you can expect when you visit...

Feel like a goddess...

I have never been to a spa so I didn't know what to expect. They really pamper you at this place. There are four options for packages you can buy so be sure to check out their website and see what you would like. Pre-booking is required so don't get left out!

We chose a the comfort package and I still felt incredibly pampered. We had drinks, facials, a massage under the waterfall, a steam bath...I was in heaven. It was all incredibly lush. I left feeling the most relaxed I have ever been.

Get a facial...or two

There are two facials available which are both included in any package you buy. One is a Silicia Mud Mask and the second an Algae Mask. My skin felt so soft after!

Relax in the Spa Cave...

The Lagoon has a cave where you can completely forget about the outside world. It has benches along the perimeter for you to sit. There is also a recording you can listen to that gives you some background on how the lagoon was formed. Yay science!

Funny story: while a few people were in there relaxing we decided to play the audio clip which we were NOT expecting it to be so loud and dramatic. We may or may not have disgruntled some (I'M SORRY).  If you are a nerd like we are and would like to learn about the geothermal spa, it's worth a listen.

Lounge in the Main Pool...

There isn't really a limit to how long you can stay. We stayed for about 3 hours and found that to be enough. You can wade up to the Spa Bar and order a drink. Ours were included in the package we purchased.

Some Things You Might Want to Know...

There are lockers for your stuff! When you get there, you get a fancy bracelet that corresponds to you only. You scan a locker to assign it to yourself and only your bracelet will be able to unlock it. You can store your stuff in there.

You can take your phone and/or camera. This was a big deal for me because I'm a blogger. I wasn't sure how I would be able to get any pictures as I didn't want to leave my phone unattended while I was in the pool. So I came out with my phone snapped some shots and then was able to go right back into the change rooms to lock up my phone. If you want to keep it with you, many people had waterproof cases or stuck their phones in ziplock bags.

Sometimes people take your towel. There are hangers around the pool with numbers that correspond to your locker however, sometimes people get confused. No big deal, just go inside and ask for a new one, staff are really friendly and helpful.

If you didn't rent a car, there are busses you can take to get there. Also, really cool, you can actually show up straight from the airport and they will store your luggage. AMAZING.

If you really want to feel prepared, watch this video. You better believe the day before our visit we all stood around my brother's phone watching it haha.

So to sum up... TREAT YO SELF
